How to refill a LAMY multi-function pen

With ballpoint pen functions, marker refills and lead refills to factor in, refilling a LAMY multi-function pen can feel much trickier than a standard pen. Luckily, the process is surprisingly simple, if a little different to the rest of the LAMY range.

Ballpoint, marker and mechanical pencil multi-function pens

To open a LAMY multi-function pen, hold the back section with one hand, and the front section in the other. Twist the front section anti-clockwise, and draw gently away from the back section to reveal the refills. Remove any old ballpoint refills by pulling it gently from the mounting, and replace with the LAMY M21 Ballpoint Refill in the colour of your choosing.

The marker refill process is the same as replacing a ballpoint refill. Use the LAMY M55 Marker Refill to refill the marker function.

To refill the leads in the mechanical pencil, remove the mechanical pencil mechanism by pulling it gently from its mounting, and insert suitable leads one by one into the top of the mechanism. Use LAMY M41 0.5mm Lead Refill for pens with a 0.5mm lead mechanism, or M40 0.7mm Pencil Leads for those with a 0.7mm lead mechanism. A maximum of three lead refills can be inserted into the mechanism at any time.

Multi-colour pens

When changing the refills of a multi-colour pen like the LAMY 2000 Multi-Function Pen, remove one refill at a time and replace it before removing another.

To open a LAMY multi-colour pen, hold the back section with one hand, and the front section in the other. Twist the front section anti-clockwise, and draw gently away from the back section to reveal the refills. Remove any old ballpoint refills by pulling it gently from the mounting to reveal the metal housing then, holding the housing in place with a fingernail, slide the refill out. Replace with the LAMY M21 Ballpoint Refill in the colour of your choosing, with the colour refill going on the opposite side to the colour indicator due to the gravity-fed nature of this pen mechanism.
